From 1925 to 1975, Austin High School was located at 1212 Rio Grande Avenue. Today that location is the Rio Grande Campus of the Austin Community College. The building had actually been built in 1915 as the John Allan Junior High School. Mr. Allen had made a major contribution to Austin schools in the 1890s, and the new building was constructed to provide additional opprtunities for girls and boys. Special programs in “manual training” and “domestic arts” were offered at the Rio Grande site in the early years.

Well, it seems there are many folks who want to help….SO…..we are having this first meeting Monday, November 16, at 6:30 at 5838 Balcones Drive at Gil Elsass’ office. We are thinking the most immediate need is to first secure a venue and a date for our wonderful event. Bring your ideas and keep in mind that drinking and driving to distant locations might be a bit challenging. Some thoughts have been, Riverboat again, Don’s Depot, Broken Spoke, La Zona Rosa, Zilker Club House, Maggie Mae’s again, Salt Lick, Stubbs BBQ. So, that will get your mind rolling. There are others I have already forgotten!!! LOL
We hope to get a working committee together to fill some key areas, and several have volunteered graciously. We look forward to seeing you all then and please let your buddies know if they are interested in working on the committee. See you soon!
