Students and Alumni Mourn Passing of Roy Bartlett

Roy Bartlett died Saturday, August 25 in Austin. He served at Austin High for his entire professional career and was a giant of a man, both in body and spirit. There may be dozens of professional photographers out there who cut their professional teeth in Roy’s classes. And there are thousands more who benefited from his firm but caring guidance over the years. He was a senior class advisor and sponsored senior class events in the 1990s. He fabricated the metal stands for the 16 station “Austin high Trail”, completed in 1989. He was a “go to” kind of man when you needed good photo coverage of student activities. For many years at Dedication Day, the school was flooded with students armed with cameras and their efforts provide a lasting record of that signature Austin High event. He cared about kids and was thought of by his colleagues as a “student advocate” and the “wrong man to fool.” He delivered on anything he promised. Roy began his Austin High service in the 1970s and retired in 2007. Although the Hall of Honor process has not yet selected him as Honored Faculty, all who knew him are certain that he will soon be selected. Many grieve his passing. Services pending at Weed-Corley-Fish.

LoyalForever.com the official Austin High Alumni Association

Austin High has prepared students to be educated, socially conscious citizens and leaders. Some of the current Austin High students are among the fourth and fifth generations of their families to attend the school. The school is in the early stages of a Renaissance, with an endowment, the Stephen F. Austin Society supporting extracurricular excellence, a massive grounds renovation project, and new leadership. Out of this event has come the creation of an Austin High Alumni Association that has been needed for so long and that will allow our tens of thousands of graduates to stay in touch with their friends and classmates and with AHS.

Membership to the Society costs $20.00 per year or $250.00 for a lifetime membership. You can purchase online or send a check to the the Association at 1800 Nueces St., Austin 78701. Membership is open to all AHS graduates and Friends of Austin High School. Dues are used to pay for maintenance of the website and the Austin High archives.

“Loyalforever.com” the official Austin High School Alumni Website

The Austin High Alumni Association website is up and running. 1982 graduate, Lorin Rivers, has created an interactive site that will allow members of “LoyalForever” to update their contact information and keep in touch with other members post messages and blog on their individual class pages. Be sure to check the site often as new updates are posted as they are received. If you have an event or reunion you would like to advertise contact the Webmaster.
