Austin High School Alumni – Austin, Texas

1950s – Segregation ends and Austin High School, 2300 strong, opens to Blacks on a voluntary basis. Football games are packed and afterwards students danced to Elvis at “sock hops” in the gym. Students participate in “Howdy Week” and hold “friendliest Elections”
